So...

That last post? I noticed that we were getting a bunch of hits from Oulu, Finland. I thought, "How can I welcome our new Finnish friends?" So I translated a post about Finnish painter Akseli Gallen-Kallela into Finnish using Google's dubious translator. I'll post the English version tomorrow...

  1. Hi Daniel, and thanks for your welcome to bunch of readers from Oulu, Finland. I read your article on pataphysics, and found it both interesting and funny. Then I posted it on my Facebook account to stir some discussion among my friends. It seems some of them have really clicked the link!

Anyways, thanks for your translation! And thanks for you continuously interesting blog!

  2. And yes, the Finnish is awful but understandable. Mostly English word order with (almost always) correct Finnish words.

  3. Antti -

I am so glad you enjoyed the post! And it's a pleasure to finally understand why I kept seeing Oulu on Google Analytics. I guessed you probably knew English, and I apologize for not knowing Finnnish - I hope the translation wasn't too terrible. Be well, and thanks again -

    Daniel

  4. It looks like I posted that comment while you were posting your second one. Google translation is obviously from a machine, so I guess it's inelegant; the word order problem is interesting. But I'm happy with what it's done for me so far - I've been able to correspond with artists from Italy and Mexico...

  5. Got the IA article - I thought it was going to be about you, I didn't know you wrote it! Congratulations on both fronts. If it said how many articles are that series I missed it. Two? Three?
